About Our Furikake Guide
Gohan Guide helps visitors identify Japanese furikake using source-checked Japanese labels, normalized allergen facts, dietary guidance, and official product sources.
Why this exists
If you don't read Japanese, the back of a furikake bag is close to unreadable. It's usually a dense ingredient list, a small allergen box, and — for some brands — a color-coded chart, almost never with an English translation. Translation apps can get you individual words, but they won't tell you whether "魚介エキス" (seafood extract) is a dealbreaker for a fish allergy, or that a seaweed blend that looks plant-based on the shelf actually lists bonito flakes as its second ingredient. This guide records the Japanese label and separates explicit ingredient and allergen signals from what the source cannot establish, so you have a researched starting point before you reach the store aisle.
Who's behind it
Gohan Guide is a solo-run project — one person building, researching, and maintaining the site. AI-assisted tools help organize research and prepare working drafts, but the site owner is responsible for publication. Draft English ingredient translations stay out of public product copy until a separate source review is recorded. It's early: there's no team yet and no affiliate links live yet (see our disclosure and privacypages). That's just where things stand today, not a claim we're something bigger. A public contact channel for error reports and product suggestions is coming soon.
Our mission
The goal here isn't another "10 Best Furikake You Must Try" list — plenty of those already exist. It's to give you enough real, sourced information — actual ingredients, actual allergens, actual sourcing links — to make your own informed choice, including the choice to put something back on the shelf. When a label doesn't tell us enough to be sure, we say "unable to determine" instead of guessing. For exactly how that checking works, seehow we verify our data. For what our allergen and ingredient information can and can't promise you, see thefull disclaimer. Our sourcing, independence, update, and correction standards are set out in the editorial policy.
