About Furikake Finder
Furikake Finder is a guide to Japanese furikake โ the rice seasoning found in nearly every convenience store, supermarket, and souvenir rack in Japan โ built for people visiting Japan, or who've just come home with a few bags in their suitcase and no idea what's actually in them. At its core is a product database: ingredients and allergens translated into English, cross-checked against each manufacturer's official label, and organized so you can filter by dietary restriction instead of guessing from a photo of the packaging.
Why this exists
If you don't read Japanese, the back of a furikake bag is close to unreadable. It's usually a dense ingredient list, a small allergen box, and โ for some brands โ a color-coded chart, almost never with an English translation. Translation apps can get you individual words, but they won't tell you whether "้ญไปใจใญใน" (seafood extract) is a dealbreaker for a fish allergy, or that a seaweed blend that looks plant-based on the shelf actually lists bonito flakes as its second ingredient. Furikake Finder exists to do that checking once, carefully, so you don't have to do it standing in a store aisle.
Who's behind it
Furikake Finder is a solo-run project โ one person building, researching, and maintaining the site, using an AI-assisted (and human-reviewed) pipeline for translation and content. It's early: there's no team yet, no affiliate links live yet, and no analytics running yet (see our disclosure and privacypages). Our mission
The goal here isn't another "10 Best Furikake You Must Try" list โ plenty of those already exist. It's to give you enough real, sourced information โ actual ingredients, actual allergens, actual sourcing links โ to make your own informed choice, including the choice to put something back on the shelf.
